The Third Paradise represents the fusion of the first and second paradises. The first is where humans were fully integrated into nature. The second is the artificial paradise, developed by human intelligence, up to the global dimensions reached today with science and technology. This paradise is made of artificial needs, artificial products, artificial comforts, artificial pleasures, and every other kind of artifice. A true artificial world has formed, which, with exponential progression, generates, alongside beneficial effects, irreversible processes of degradation and consumption of the natural world. The Third Paradise is the third phase of humanity, which is realized in the balanced connection between artifice and nature.

Third Paradise means the transition to a new stage of planetary civilization, indispensable to ensure the survival of the human race. To this end, it is first necessary to reform the principles and ethical behaviors that guide common life.

The Third Paradise is the great myth that leads everyone to assume personal responsibility in the global vision. The term paradise comes from the ancient Persian language and means "protected garden". We are the gardeners who must protect this planet and care for the human society that inhabits it.

The symbol of the Third Paradise, a reconfiguration of the mathematical sign of infinity, is composed of three consecutive circles. The two outer circles represent all the diversities and antinomies, including nature and artifice. The central one is the interpenetration between the opposite circles and represents the generative womb of the new humanity.

Phil Mer, former name Philipp Mersa, is a musician, composer, art historian, curator and collector. Grandson of the Mersa family who hosted the artist at Ciasa Jocl from his first stay in Calfosch, Phil met and frequented Siegward Sprotte during his teenage years. Through a collaboration involving Smach, the Pistoletto Foundation, and Philip Mersa, the visionary behind this project, we turned the idea into reality.

EXHIBITION SPACE
Following the temporary installation period in the Vatican, Pistoletto's Third Paradise will return to its place of creation, supporting the costs of production, promotion, and round-trip transportation to Rome. The artwork will find a permanent home in the Plans area on the Passo Gardena in Colfosco, Val Badia (BZ), in a meadow provided by the Mersa family, adjacent to a charming forest with a stream, at the foot of the Sella Group. The artwork would be accessible via a pedestrian and cycling path as well as from the provincial road SS243 of Passo Gardena and would be visible from above to those crossing the Pass, climbers on the Tridentina Ferrata, and visitors of the Plans Frara ski lift (part of the Sellaronda route), whose mid-station is just a few tens of meters from the meadow. The artwork would also be clearly visible during the winter season, given its proximity to the ski slope, placing it "at the center" of the tourist traffic in the valley and reaching many people with its message.

Il Terzo Paradiso rappresenta la fusione fra il primo e il secondo paradiso. Il primo è quello in cui gli esseri umani erano totalmente integrati nella natura. Il secondo è il paradiso artificiale, sviluppato dall’intelligenza umana, fino alle dimensioni globali raggiunte oggi con la scienza e la tecnologia. Questo paradiso è fatto di bisogni artificiali, di prodotti artificiali, di comodità artificiali, di piaceri artificiali e di ogni altro genere di artificio. Si è formato un vero e proprio mondo artificiale che, con progressione esponenziale, ingenera, parallelamente agli effetti benefici, processi irreversibili di degrado e consunzione del mondo naturale.

Il Terzo Paradiso è la terza fase dell’umanità, che si realizza nella connessione equilibrata tra l’artificio e la natura.

Terzo Paradiso significa il passaggio a uno stadio inedito della civiltà planetaria, indispensabile per assicurare al genere umano la propria sopravvivenza. A tale fine occorre innanzi tutto ri-formare i principi e i comportamenti etici che guidano la vita comune.

Il Terzo Paradiso è il grande mito che porta ognuno ad assumere una personale responsabilità nella visione globale.

Il termine paradiso deriva dall’antica lingua persiana e significa “giardino protetto”.

Noi siamo i giardinieri che devono proteggere questo pianeta e curare la società umana che lo abita.

Il simbolo del Terzo Paradiso, riconfigurazione del segno matematico dell’infinito, è composto da tre cerchi consecutivi. I due cerchi esterni rappresentano tutte le diversità e le antinomie, tra cui natura e artificio. Quello centrale è la compenetrazione fra i cerchi opposti e rappresenta il grembo generativo della nuova umanità.

Phil Mer, all’anagrafe Philipp Mersa, è musicista, compositore, storico dell’arte, curatore e collezionista. Nipote dei Mersa che hanno ospitato l‘artista a Ciasa Jocl dal primo soggiorno a Calfosch, Phil ha conosciuto e frequentato Siegward Sprotte durante la sua adolescenza. Attraverso una collaborazione con Smach, la Fondazione Pistoletto e Philip Mersa, l'ideatore di questo progetto, è stato reso possibile realizzarlo.

Das Dritte Paradies stellt die Verschmelzung zwischen dem ersten und dem zweiten Paradies dar. Das erste ist jenes, in dem Menschen vollständig in die Natur integriert waren. Das zweite ist das künstliche Paradies, entwickelt durch menschliche Intelligenz, bis hin zu den heutigen globalen Dimensionen, die durch Wissenschaft und Technologie erreicht wurden. Dieses Paradies besteht aus künstlichen Bedürfnissen, künstlichen Produkten, künstlichem Komfort, künstlichem Vergnügen und jeder anderen Form von Künstlichkeit. Es hat sich eine wahre künstliche Welt gebildet, die exponentiell wächst und parallel zu den positiven Auswirkungen irreversible Prozesse der Degradation und Verbrauch des natürlichen Lebensraums hervorbringt.

Das Dritte Paradies ist die dritte Phase der Menschheit, die sich in der ausgewogenen Verbindung zwischen Künstlichkeit und Natur realisiert.

Drittes Paradies bedeutet den Übergang zu einem neuen Stadium der planetaren Zivilisation, unerlässlich, um das Überleben der Menschheit zu sichern. Dafür ist es zunächst notwendig, die Prinzipien und ethischen Verhaltensweisen neu zu gestalten, die das gemeinsame Leben leiten.

Das Dritte Paradies ist der große Mythos, der jeden dazu bringt, eine persönliche Verantwortung in der globalen Vision zu übernehmen.

Der Begriff Paradies stammt aus der alten persischen Sprache und bedeutet "geschützter Garten".

Wir sind die Gärtner, die diesen Planeten schützen und die menschliche Gesellschaft, die ihn bewohnt, pflegen müssen.

Das Symbol des Dritten Paradieses, eine Neugestaltung des mathematischen Unendlichkeitszeichens, besteht aus drei aufeinanderfolgenden Kreisen. Die beiden äußeren Kreise repräsentieren alle Unterschiede und Antinomien, einschließlich Natur und Künstlichkeit. Der mittlere Kreis ist die Durchdringung zwischen den gegensätzlichen Kreisen und repräsentiert den generativen Schoß der neuen Menschlichkeit.

Phil Mer, auch bekannt als Philipp Mersa, ist Musiker, Komponist, Kunsthistoriker, Kurator und Kunstsammler. Als Enkel der Familie Mersa, die den Künstler seit seinem ersten Aufenthalt in Calfosch am Joclhof beherbergte, konnte Phil während seiner Jugend Siegward Sprotte persönlich kennenlernen und regelmäßig besuchen. Durch eine Zusammenarbeit mit Smach, der Pistoletto-Stiftung und Philip Mersa, dem Ideengeber dieses Projekts, wurde es möglich, es zu verwirklichen.
